How ArborPGR Works
ArborPGR 22.9 SC is a paclobutrazol-based plant growth regulator applied as a soil drench or soil injection. It is absorbed through the root system and moves through the xylem to slow excessive vegetative growth while promoting a range of physiological benefits in trees and turfgrass.
Excessive Vegetative Growth
Paclobutrazol inhibits gibberellin biosynthesis, reducing shoot elongation and canopy expansion. This results in more compact, manageable growth and reduces the frequency of pruning and trimming cycles.
Utility Line Clearance
By controlling vertical and lateral shoot growth, ArborPGR helps reduce encroachment into utility corridors — lowering maintenance costs and improving safety for utility line clearance programs.
Drought & Environmental Stress
Growth regulation redirects the plant's energy toward root development and stress-response pathways. Trees treated with paclobutrazol show improved drought tolerance and resilience under challenging environmental conditions.
Weak Root Development
By slowing above-ground growth, ArborPGR promotes enhanced root development — improving the tree's ability to access water and nutrients from the soil profile.
Turfgrass Growth & Mowing Frequency
Applied to non-residential turfgrass, ArborPGR reduces vertical growth, cuts mowing frequency, and promotes deeper green color and improved turf density and appearance.
Poor Plant Appearance
Treated plants exhibit deeper green coloration, thicker cuticles, and improved overall vigor — producing a healthier, more visually appealing canopy and turf surface.

Professional Usage Guidelines
ArborPGR 22.9 SC is applied as a soil drench or soil injection and is labeled for two primary use cases: trees and non-residential turfgrass.
For trees, apply as a basal drench or soil injection near the trunk at the soil interface. Basal drench applications involve pouring the diluted mixture into a shallow 2-inch furrow around the base of the tree. Soil injection applications should be placed 3–6 inches deep using equipment capable of 60–150 psi. Dosage is determined by trunk diameter (DBH) and tree species group — the label provides rates for over 100 tree species organized into six groups, covering trees from 4" to 50" DBH. Applications can be made year-round when soil is not frozen or saturated. Maximum growth inhibition may not be fully visible for up to 18 months. Do not reapply until symptoms from the previous application begin to disappear, or within 3 years.
For non-residential turfgrass, apply at 0.10 to 0.75 lbs. active ingredient per acre (6.4 to 48.0 fl oz product per acre) depending on grass type. Warm-season grasses (bermudagrass, St. Augustinegrass) use 0.50–0.75 lbs. a.i./A. Cool-season grasses use 0.25–0.50 lbs. a.i./A. Bentgrass putting greens and overseeded bermudagrass use 0.10–0.25 lbs. a.i./A. Apply uniformly with pressurized spray equipment and water in within 24 hours with 0.25 inch of water. Mowing frequency can be reduced by up to 50% for 6–8 weeks. ArborPGR also suppresses Poa annua growth and competitive ability within 1–2 weeks of application. Do not apply more than 4 quarts per acre per year.
Always read and follow all label directions prior to use. Refer to the product label for complete dosing tables, species groups, and use restrictions.
